5 Things To Look For When Buying A Wooden Toy

American people love to shop, whether it is at the mall, a craft show or perhaps online. We can also be impulsive buyers and tv commercials do a good job working on parent's emotions on what new electronic toy that child may need.

One thing to look for in a wooden toy is for the quality of structure. Is it built for a child to play with? Is it built with hard wood or is it made from soft pine? Hardwoods will be much more durable, while the price may be a bit higher the longevity of the product will be worth the price.

Another item to look for is the origin. Is the toy an import or is it USA made? Most wooden toys that are USA made are going to be much better quality than any imported toy. The American toy maker knows that if he wants to stay in business it is essential that he builds quality wooden toys.

Is this wooden toy unique? Maybe many people do not really think this is important, but for myself I prefer to have some things that are unique and not something that everyone has. These types of items are perhaps found more at craft shows where the local toy maker will go to sell toys. Some unique wooden toys can also make wonderful decor!

What type of finish is on the wooden toy? This is an important question for the parents of today. Many wooden toys are done in stains or even sold unfinished. People think that children need lots of colors but I have watched many children choose between an unfinished toy and a painted one and the majority have chosen the natural, unfinished look. This brings another advantage to getting a natural unfinished wooden toy as it can be done in the exact colors that the parent or child desires.

Another question to ask when buying a wooden toy is how will this toy provide stimulation? All parents want their children to be brilliant and caring. Playing with wooden toys can help that. Unlike all the electronic toys and battery operated ones, a child will begin to use their own imagination, which sometimes in our US culture I feel that is being neglected. Give a child something natural and let the brain and senses do their natural thing and creativity will come into play.

There are many toys on the market, but perhaps when shopping for toys, it would be best to consider some of these ideas and then decide which toy would be the best for the child.
