A Wooden Rocking Horse Your Child Will Enjoy

Children love to play. We as parents want to make that time enjoyable and when purchasing a toy, parents want toys that will hold up to a child's playtime. A wooden rocking horse will do just that. Children will enjoy riding their wooden rocking horses in their own "pretend" world. There are many types of wooden rocking horses. Wooden rocking horses come in a variety of finishes. Some are painted and made to look very traditional, others are stained and painted and yet others are only stained and oiled. Many of these wooden rocking horses will handle up to a 300 pound person, but for vigorous child activity it is recommended for a 150 pounds. By handling this amount of weight it shows how durable a wooden rocking horse truly is.

What is the best age to give a wooden rocking horse to a child? A toddler can begin to enjoy the horse with mom or dad nearby to help steady. By allowing a toddler to be on a wooden rocking horse helps the child with balance while on a moving toy. By the age of 3 a child can be able to handle the wooden rocking horse very well by themselves.

One of my favorites is the wooden rocking horse that has a burnt-oiled finish. The color/finish of this is where the wood is first burnt with a very hot flame and then a hand rubbed natural oil finish applied to the burnt surface directly afterwords to seal in the rustic beauty. There are also some models that have the burnt/oiled finish but then have hand painted markings on the head, saddle and rockers.

Another model that children love are traditional painted wooden rocking horses. These have a painted finish, usually white and then a contrast color for the head, saddle, tail and rockers.

Last but not least are the common stained wooden rocking horses. Many children have grown up with these types of wooden rocking horses and after the kids are grown the grandchildren enjoy them. Wooden rocking horses are an old favorite toy that has endured the test of time.

Not all wooden rocking horses are used for playtime. Once the family has gone, a wooden rocking horse makes a nice homey decor as well. If you are looking for your dollar to buy a special gift for a child that will last a lifetime, a wooden rocking horse will be a toy that will make you feel like you have made a great investment.
