Here is a design I did for myself. Reminiscent of my very first hard bound book I received as a child, after having my tonsils out, and being good, my parents gave me a copy of: "The Little Engine That Could". I still have my copy displayed on my book shelf at home, and use it to read to visiting small children while playing with the train puzzle I have at home for them.
Probably the best reason though why the train is so important in my life is that I spent 3 1/2 years riding the rails from the end of 1942 through 1945, at the ages of 1 to 4 1/2 years old. I traveled by train from our hometown in Redford Township, Michigan (Detroit), to Bremerton, Washington, (on Puget Sound), a US Naval Shipyard and Base. We traversed the rails every 6 weeks to and from Bremerton where my father was stationed in the Navy during the 2nd World War. The base didn't have enough housing (Quanset Huts) for only but half of the married enlisted men's families, so they devised a system whereby the families would rotate every 6 weeks between the base and their homes back home. The US Government provided the train travel back and forth. Having spent many times on the same train route, my mother and myself, and then eventually my brother, got to know the conductor and porter almost as family. It became known to me much later in life how important it was and is today to have family together. I was very fortunate to not have lost my father in war. My heart goes out to all of those of you who have lost a loved one in war.
THE PUZZLE-MAN TOYS Our wooden toys are created for the safety and education of all. We started designing for young children, but soon found that every person in the family was the kid having fun. While having fun, learning skills are very apparent. These wooden toys help develop dexterity, hand/eye coordination, color, shape, size identification, problem-solving and reasoning skills, plus many others.
All of our Jig-Saw Puzzles are created without a frame to insert the pieces into, as most others are. We want the child to match and compare body parts that go together or structural shapes to each other, in order to reassemble each design. Not put a piece into a frame that matches the frame, having no consideration for the relationship of the components that make up the design. The grain of the wood plays an important part as all designs are cut from a solid piece of wood.
This toy has the following qualities and capabilities: Non-Toxic (safe in child's mouth). Interlocks loosely (very easy to attach one piece to another). Water-Resistant. Washable in the Sink or Play With in the Bathtub. Heat Resistant. Can be Hot Plates and Coasters. Decorative & Conversational throughout the house. All puzzles will hang together on the wall with no hook or gluing. (It will hang from just a small finishing nail in the wall).
And last but not least, this item is part of our entire line of: Educational Wooden Toys/Games & Children's Play Furniture.
